A Little Bit of Everything

GAMES

  • I Spy

    • Find an object somewhere in the room that you are in, don't tell you child what you picked and give them clues to help them figure out what the object is.  For a more challenging game have your child pick the object and give you clues.

  • Hide and Seek

    • Can be played both inside or outside.  â€‹

  • Simon Says/Follow the Leader

    • Have your child follow your movement, then you follow them.  To make it a little harder add Simon Says when they can only follow the movement if Simon says too.

  • Pop Can Bowling

    • Use empty soda can/milk jugs/bottles and a ball to create a bowling alley.  No ball?  Make a ball with some socks all rolled together. â€‹

  • Hot and Cold

    • Hide an object and let your child hunt for it.  As they get closer, tell them they are getting warmer.  If they move away, they are getting colder.  â€‹

  • Color Hunt
    • Give your child a color and have them see how many things they can find in the house that are the same color
  • Scavenger Hunt â€‹
    • Another idea that can be as simple or as complex as you want to make it.  Here are two simple scavenger hunts to get you started.  Remember you don't have to have a printed list-  you can also just tell them 2-3 things to find and send them off

SENSORY

  • Water play-  Fill the sink or bathtub partway and give your child some measuring cups (or regular cups) to fill and dump.  (this is also a great science/math/fine motor activity)

  • Add some soap to a sink full of water and play with the bubbles.

DRAMATIC PLAY

  • Build a pillow fort using pillows, cushions or furniture and a sheet or blanket.  How many different things can it be?

ADAPTIVE

  • Give your child something that needs cleaned, some soap and water and a rag.  Let them get to work.

  • Have you child help with chores- they  can dust, fold, sweep and more - and they love to help you out.  It might not be perfect, but that's okay!

ARTS & MUSIC

  • Put on your favorite music and have a dance party.

  • Make your dance party a freeze dance party.  Pause the music and see how fast and how long your child can freeze for.

  • Create reusable art.  Take something you already have and arrange it in a way to create a piece of art.  (For example, use the silverware to make a picture on the table or your shoes to make a sculpture)  Then put your "art materials" away and find a whole new set of things to use.

  • Trace household objects on paper, then cut out the tracings and make a picture with them.

  • Create "pass me" art.  Have your child draw a line or two, then pass you to the paper to add to their drawing.  Take turns adding to the same drawing.  To make it harder, only use a specific shape for the drawings- only lines or only triangles.

  • Pots, pans and buckets make great drums.  What other household items can be used for music?  Create a band.

SCIENCE

  • Head outside and watch the clouds float by.  Talk about what you think they look like.

  • Look for the signs of spring- grass growing, flowers emerging.  If you can find dandelions, pick some and rub them on white paper to see what happens.

  • Dig in the dirt- what can you find? Make sure anything alive gets carefully put back where you found it.
